Sopris Mountain Ranch, Basalt, Colorado
The original residence was completed in October of 2007, and we have been recently commissioned to “complete” one of the original ideas budgetary constraints removed from the project’s original program.
After several years of living within the home, the original clients have settled on the idea of extending an outdoor “room” beyond the existing kitchen and breakfast area of the home’s southwestern massing. The design of the trellis structure is layered to offer a significant reduction to the amount of direct sunlight received into the interior spaces while not limiting the mountain views from the existing spaces. By creating the exterior structure, the home will essentially gain almost 600 sq ft of usable outdoor amenity during the times of year when the sun and temperatures are most severe. Completion for the structure is anticipated for the summer of 2014.
